Use 1 1 4 inch nails to cover the outline of the roof with strips of metal eave flashing also called edging. It has the main function of controlling water flow on the roof which has many implications. A cantilever is a rigid structural element anchored only at one end to a vertical support from which it is protruding. Most metal roofing is installed with little or no overhang either on eaves or gable edges because it tends to bend under heavy weights.

Using a cantilever means you don t need external bracing. If there are gutters installed on the eaves the eave flashing should be installed to overhang the lip of the gutter by about 1 2 inch. There is a small size metal rim facing outwards and away from the roof fascia. A typical metal roof overhang may be 2 to 4 inches or even less.

Although it does not look like much this component is made to have great structural integrity.
