Located on the banks of the iconic brisbane river in tennyson the centre provides brisbane with an international standard tennis facility for the first time since the closure of the milton tennis centre in 1999. The light weight of the fabric also reduced the amount of steel required and saved on building costs. Pat rafter arena is centre court at the queensland tennis centre. The main court was designed to incorporate a ptfe glass fibre fabric roof.

This tensile membrane structure allows diffused light through into the arena reducing the need for artificial lighting. Enjoying the pat rafter arena experience by day takes careful planning and preparation starting with choosing your seating in the 5 700 seat covered arena. The light weight of the fabric also reduced the amount of steel required and saved on building costs. The brisbane international was held for the first time in january 2009 at the venue.

A significant feature of the purpose built facility is that it provides a fixed roof solution to permanently shelter 5 500 spectators from the heat and rain whilst still maintaining the atmosphere and tournament status of an outdoor event.
