Ro Water Filter Tank Pressure

If your city water pressure is around 50 psi the system will shut off water production when the tank reaches a pressure of 30 or so psi.

Close the tank s ball valve. In the pnrv18 model the tank holds approximately 1 5 gallons and in the pnrv model it holds 2 1 gallons. The reverse osmosis system is equipped with a sensory valve that halts the production of water when the pressure in the tank reaches 2 3 of the line pressure. It should be around 5 psi for a standard 4 gallon tank 3 2 gallon capacity.

If the water pressure feeding an ro system is less than that the system will produce less water and at a lower quality. To check your pressure locate the schrader valve typically covered by a blue plastic cap on the side of the tank near the bottom. Point y on figure 1. Allow four hours for the tank to fill and try again.

Using a pressure gauge check the air pressure in the tank. Most ro units have an automatic water shutoff that kicks in when the pressure inside the tank reaches 2 3 of the pressure of the water flowing from your main line into the ro system. If it s lower than that add more pressure using a bicycle pump up to 5 psi. The standard air charge for undersink ro tanks is about seven psi when there is no water in the tank.

Use air compressor or bicycle pump to re pressurize the 4 gallon tank to 5 psi and 7psi for the 14 gallon tank. The water pressure decreases as the tank gets near empty since the reverse osmosis filter produces water at a slow rate. Private well systems most commonly have pressurized storage tank and pump systems with 20 40 psi or 30 50 psi on off pressure settings. Additionally production is reduced whenever the water temperature is below 77 f.

Reconnect the yellow line at point y. It takes 4 hours to produce 2 gallons of water. Locate the pressure valve under the blue cap on the tank. Your tank should have pressure of 7 to 8 psi without any water in the tank.

To check the pressure accurately you need a low pressure air gauge. You have to empty the tank of water in order to check the air pressure. Open the cap at the bottom of the tank to access the pressure valve. Drain the old tank completely thru the spigot.

Turn off the feed water supply to the ro. Disconnect the yellow line from the tank valve. You might have low air pressure inside the ro tank itself. Use an air pressure gauge to check the current air pressure.
